Artist's Description
Invocation for a New Day is an allegorical fantasy of a native shaman invoking the sunrise for a new day. As he is praying the sun ray penetrates his being bringing about an enlightened state of being for the shaman and his people. The art is made with weathered Cedar Fence Pickets, utilizing the drama of the wood grain to create patterns of a South Western Canyonland environment. Some paint pigment is used in the sun and a black glass "puddle" surrounded by aluminum wire creates a "black hole" center. all the other whiteness in the wood is the result of bleaching the wood. The feathers in the Shaman's hair are made with pounded aluminum wire and copper wire. This piece requires contemplation.
