Artist's Description

Cedar Falls is my first Weathered Cedar Fence Picket mosaic, completed in January, 2015. It was born from an idea that came to me as I was replacing a Cedar fence at the home we had just purchased. The variations in the grain inspired me and the long time artist in me saw a whole new genre in the making. I have worked almost entirely with weathered cedar fence pickets as my medium ever since - although nowadays I also use artist's oils for color. In this piece the white wood was made white through a bleaching process occurring naturally from when the lawn sprinklers sprayed the fence repeatedly over a period of time. I did enhance the white with some white paint at the time of building the mosaic. And today I routinely bleach my wood with chlorine bleach for effect and also to make for more uniformity when I add color. Each individual piece of wood is hand cut and fit and glued in place. Denny McNeill

I was born August 22, 1948 in Cortez, CO. My family moved to Littleton, CO. in 1961, and I graduated High School from Littleton High School 1966. Then I went to Western State College in Gunnison, CO, 1966 – 1968, but did not graduate. I never went to art school. I am a completely self-taught artist and have had a good teacher. I began framing houses to earn a living in 1977 and worked in the construction trades for the next 25-28 years. I moved to Los Angeles in1982 and had a door installation business until 2002. In 2001, I found my soulmate and love of my life. We moved to Colorado in March of 2002 and we were married in June of that year.
